3 reasons the PSAT is important for International Students

The PSAT is a qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship and other scholarships.

Unfortunately, National Merit is only awarded to students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Here are three reasons why taking the PSAT as an international student is still a good idea!

1. Get sought after by Universities

When you take the PSAT as an international student, you can opt-in for the Student Search Service, a free program that lets you find colleges and scholarship opportunities. It also gives certain colleges and scholarships information about you!

This means you can expect to be wooed by universities.

As a non-U.S. citizen it is a great way to learn about schools in the United States. It will hep you learn more about your options and make informed decisions about studying in the U.S.

2. Discover and improve your weaknesses

Taking the PSAT is a great way to predict how you will do on the SAT and allows you to start paying more attention to those areas where you are weak.

You normally take the PSAT in SS1 or SS2. So it will give you one or two years after taking it before you need to take the real SAT and apply for colleges. You’ll have plenty of time to improve on your weakness and increase your score.

3. Reduce test anxiety

School exams do not have the same format or rules as standardized tests. If you wait until your final year to start taking college entrance exams, you might experience test anxiety -especially if you are not used to taking timed tests.
